Introducing "Snakes of Mysore: Educate, Enlighten & Empower"
Adavi Alert Foundation proudly presents
Snakes of Mysore
A groundbreaking initiative to raise awareness and address the snakebite crisis in India—recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a neglected tropical disease since 2017.
This unique book brings together science, conservation, and community stories to build a deeper understanding of snakes and their vital role in our ecosystem. Among the many voices and contributions featured, Snakes of Mysore also shines a light on the legendary Snake Man of Mysore, Mr. Balasubramanya, fondly known as Snake Shyam. Recognized as a conservation icon since the 1990s, his journey stands out for its impact and inspiration. With over 43 years of dedicated service, his unique style and fearless approach to snake rescue have earned him widespread respect, making him a memorable figure in India’s wildlife conservation landscape.
The book features nine in-depth chapters, exploring the ecology and behavior of venomous, semi-venomous, and non-venomous snakes found in the Mysore region. It also provides detailed insights into the four snake species responsible for the majority of snakebite cases in India, along with vital information on venom, symptoms, and first-response measures.
But this is more than just a scientific guide it's a visual and educational masterpiece, carefully crafted to inspire, educate, and promote awareness. Whether you're a student, a wildlife enthusiast, or simply curious, this book invites you into the fascinating world of reptiles often misunderstood.
“It’s more than just a coffee table book—you have to see it to believe it.”
