CSR Activity at Castle Rock (Kali Tiger Reserve) – 2017
The Kali Tiger Reserve is a protected area and a Project Tiger reserve located on the border of Uttara Karnataka and Goa. The park is home to Royal Bengal tigers, leopards, and Indian elephants, among others. The Kali River flows through the tiger reserve and is the lifeline of the ecosystem, hence its name. The tiger reserve covers an area of 1300 square kilometers. Castle Rock was a new range in those days. In June, the rainy season begins to visit this paradise on earth, making forest guards and watchers lives extremely difficult.
My main objective in 2017 was to support frontline staff by providing umbrellas, gumboots, raincoats, and flashlights of good quality.
The Range forest officer (RFO) and Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) had informed me about the challenges and obstacles encountered by field staff, so I approached UL India PVT LTD in 2017 with a proposal for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funding.
The opportunity to assist in capacity building for front-line staff who face tremendous challenges while patrolling in search of any illegal activities and checking the health of designated range was an honor and privilege.
Castle Rock has six anti-poaching camps and staff members protecting the forest and wildlife, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
After receiving approval from the UL CSR committee, WildAlert & Eco-Watch, Bangalore, and UL India PVT LTD successfully concluded the donation programme in January 2017.
We are very grateful for UL’s commitment to wildlife conservation as a global company.
