Overview:
As part of the Sarpamithra State Campaign, Adavi Alert Foundation conducted a Snake Bite Awareness Session at JSS School of Nursing, Kollegala. The programme was attended by 165 students and 6 staff members. The session focused on snake ecology, identification of medically significant snakes, snakebite prevention, scientifically accurate first-aid practices, and the importance of coexistence with snakes in both rural and urban landscapes.

Session Highlights:

  • Awareness on the ecological role of snakes and their importance in maintaining healthy ecosystems

  • Introduction to the medically significant snake species found in Karnataka

  • Guidance on preventing snakebite incidents at home, workplaces, and in agricultural settings

  • Demonstration and discussion on scientifically recommended snakebite first-aid measures

  • Addressing common myths, misconceptions, and superstitions associated with snakes

  • Promoting safe and responsible coexistence with snakes and other wildlife

  • Interactive question-and-answer session with students and faculty members

  • Donation of Snakes of Mysore books to the institution library as part of the Sarpamithra State Campaign

  • Distribution of snakebite awareness and conservation posters for display within the institution
