Founded in the year 1999 by Pavan Joshi a visionary with a unique take on the present day conservation scenario, AAF tirelessly dedicates itself to supporting and empowering the forest frontline staff. The Adavi Alert Foundation was registered in November 2022. AAF aims to provide sustainable solutions for wildlife conservation, human-animal conflicts, conservation awareness and education.

Forest Frontline Staff

The Unsung Heroes of Wildlife

The Forest Frontline Staff constitute the grassroot level of wildlife conservation in India. Employed locally by the Forest Department, they bear a profound responsibility for safeguarding the forests and its inhabitants. Right from patrolling on foot to control poaching and other illegal activities to staying vigilant throughout the day to prevent natural or human-made disasters, the frontline workers undoubtedly carry a divine spirit in their work. From the scorching summers to the heavy rains and unbearable cold, these workers endure rough and challenging conditions throughout the year. They walk approximately 20 kilometers every single day in extreme terrains with little or no equipment. Anticipating a potential threat from a wild animal on a daily basis, there are times when they cannot make it back to their homes. Thus, seeing these people selflessly working to protect our forests, we at the Adavi Alert Foundation have made it our life's mission to help and empower these vanguards.

In these 24 years, Pavan Joshi (Founder) has constantly hustled to provide these foot soldiers with basic necessities such as clean drinking water, field kits, rugs, brass whistles, summer caps and other gear which are crucial in helping them do a more efficient job. Financial aid to veteran frontline workers and their families are also provided.

PAVAN JOSHI

Founder & Conservationist

Pavan Joshi’s journey is defined by perseverance, vision, and a deep commitment to nature. Without a formal degree in environmental or wildlife sciences, he has forged his own unique path driven purely by passion for conservation.

As the Founder of Adavi Alert Foundation (AAF), a nationally recognized not-for-profit organization, Pavan has led pioneering efforts to restore and protect India’s biodiversity. His work centers on empowering forest frontline workers, raising awareness about conservation challenges, and creating opportunities for communities to actively participate in protecting forests and wildlife. Believing deeply in the power of people, he dedicates himself to inspiring the next generation, nurturing young talent, and encouraging community-driven conservation.

Under his leadership, AAF has launched impactful initiatives such as Call for Conservation, Eye for Wild, and Snakes of Mysore, which combine education, outreach, and hands-on environmental action. Pavan is also the author of Snakes of Mysore, a landmark conservation book focused on snake ecology and fostering coexistence between humans and wildlife. His outreach extends beyond print; as an RJ on Radio City 91.1 FM Bangalore, he amplifies conservation messages to a wider audience.

In February 2025, Pavan shared his story and vision for wildlife protection at TEDxSt. Aloysius (A Twist of Tales), inspiring many with his belief that conservation is a collective responsibility and that real change happens when people unite with a common purpose.

Currently, Pavan is dedicating his full attention to Gaja Raksha, Adavi Alert Foundation’s long-term project focused on addressing human-elephant conflict. This initiative aims to support both communities and forest departments through research, awareness, and field-based solutions that ensure safer coexistence between humans and elephants.

Through Adavi Alert Foundation, Pavan continues to bridge the gap between communities and conservation, championing forest frontline workers and designing initiatives that bring people closer to nature. His journey is a testament to how passion, perseverance, and community-led efforts can drive meaningful and lasting impact, encouraging others to contribute to the cause in their own unique ways.

Rashmi

Director

Rashmi, a biotechnology graduate by profession, shares a passion for wildlife and conservation alongside Pavan Joshi. As the Director of Adavi Alert Foundation (AAF), she has played a pivotal role in the organization’s growth by bringing structure, foresight, and strategic execution to every project. Her involvement in the Snakes of Mysore project was especially significant. She actively contributed to every stage, from its early planning phases to its successful launch. Her attention to detail and hands-on support were vital to the project's accomplishments and outreach.

Beyond this initiative, Rashmi has consistently served as a mentor and guiding force for all conservation programs under AAF. Her composed, mature approach and steady leadership have helped shape the foundation’s identity and impact. Through her commitment, AAF continues to thrive as a trusted and respected name in the field of biodiversity conservation.

R. Raghuram

Senior Conservationist

R. Raghuram, a seasoned conservationist and senior advisor to the Adavi Alert Foundation, resides in Gundlupete, near the Bandipur Tiger Reserve—a landscape that has shaped his lifelong devotion to wildlife and forest protection.

His journey into conservation began in high school, and soon after completing his pre-university education, he co-founded an NGO with his brother, focused on wildlife conservation and habitat protection. From launching impactful plastic eradication campaigns along Bandipur's forest roads to engaging directly in critical on-ground operations, Raghuram’s contribution to the conservation field is both wide and deep.

With decades of hands-on experience, he has played a pivotal role in supporting the Karnataka Forest Department in a variety of core conservation tasks. This includes his involvement in autopsies of carnivores, conflict mitigation work, and rapid-response wildlife rescue operations. His ability to interpret and respond to forest dynamics comes not from textbooks, but from years of walking the land, observing, and learning directly from nature.

Raghuram has conducted countless nature awareness programs for school children across the Chamarajanagara landscape, sowing seeds of curiosity and respect for the wild in young minds. His educational outreach has become a cornerstone of community engagement in the region.

What truly sets Raghuram apart is the depth of knowledge and field wisdom he carries—far beyond what one can imagine or document. His quiet leadership, built on years of fieldwork, traditional understanding, and practical conservation, continues to guide and strengthen the mission of Adavi Alert Foundation.
