Saint Mary’s College of Nursing, HD Kote

Overview:

As part of the Sarpamithra State Campaign, Adavi Alert Foundation conducted a Snake Bite Awareness and Conservation Education Session at Saint Mary’s College of Nursing, H.D. Kote, Mysuru – 571114. The session was attended by 150 nursing students and 5 staff members, with a focus on snakebite awareness, prevention, first aid, snake ecology, and the importance of responsible conservation practices.

During the programme, the team also interacted with a doctor from the hospital associated with the institution who has experience treating snakebite patients. The hospital currently maintains Anti-Snake Venom (ASV) for the treatment of snakebite cases, making it an important resource for the surrounding communities.

Adavi Alert Foundation has discussed with the hospital staff the possibility of placing an awareness board in nearby villages and towns informing the public that Anti-Snake Venom treatment is available at the hospital. This will help improve awareness among local communities and encourage people to seek timely medical treatment following a snakebite.

Session Highlights:

  • Introduction to commonly encountered venomous and non-venomous snakes of Karnataka

  • Awareness on snakebite prevention and reducing risk in rural and forest-fringe areas

  • Discussion on scientifically recommended snakebite first-aid and emergency response

  • Addressing myths, misconceptions and traditional practices associated with snakebites
