Snakebite is one of the most neglected public health concerns in India. Every year, many lives are lost due to lack of awareness, fear, misinformation, and delay in reaching proper medical care. Most of these incidents are preventable with the right knowledge and timely action.

In regions with strong human interaction around farms, plantations, and forest edges, encounters with snakes are common. In such situations, fear and panic often lead to unsafe actions, increasing the risk to both people and wildlife.

The real challenge is not the presence of snakes, but the absence of awareness and correct understanding.

How It Helps?

Sarpamithra is a structured awareness initiative by Adavi Alert Foundation that focuses on educating students and communities with practical, life-saving knowledge about snakes and snakebites.

The sessions cover:

  • How to prevent snakebites in daily life
  • Awareness of commonly encountered snakes
  • What happens during a snakebite and early symptoms
  • Correct response and importance of timely medical treatment
  • Clearing myths and misconceptions

As part of the initiative, the book Snakes of Mysore is shared with institutions to support continued learning among students and youth.

The aim is to replace fear with awareness, reduce panic, and help people respond safely and responsibly. At the same time, the initiative encourages understanding and coexistence, reducing harm to snakes and supporting ecological balance.
